So, Thanks Wikileaks! This week I find out that you signed an "agreement" with our local newspaper El Panamá América to publish the cables. Nice call.

http://www.pa-digital.com.pa/periodico/edicion-actual/pc-interna.php?story_id=1026753&codeth=1593

This newspaper, in case you don't allready know, is owned now by a bunch of Martinelli's loyalists. Most of the cables talk about Martín Torrijos (the previous president) and our current president Martinelli. Do you think they will publish any of the scandalous cables regarding him???

If you needed to contact a local newspaper why not go to one that isn't bought directly by the government???
This government is completely against freedom of speech. Just last month they extradited a spanish journalist covering a story here. I can't believe you placed the cables in their hands.

And by the way, they already started messing up the information:

Thanks!

MAJOR error to give control of Panama's WikiLeaks to President Martinelli, which is essentially what the El Panama America deal does.

And yes, that paper, since long before the sale, has a history of attributing AUC bullshit to FARC. This was not an inadvertant error, but a continuation of a disinformation campaign that has been running for many years. And Assange walked right into that.

This is a slap in the face. I was so happy just knowing that Wikileaks had panamanian cables. Now I doubt I'll be able to read them.

Many points for Martinelli's regime, zero points for freedom of speech in Panama.

This SUCKS!

Just like the global media don't know the ins and outs of Panamanian byzantine politics, Assange et al probably don't either. Which is why they should have conferred with people that do know before handing everything over to Martinelli's compañeros. It would have been a much better idea to give the cables to a group of journalists from diverse media outlets - it would not have been difficult to put such a group together - and make sure they get the coverage they deserve in Spanish and English, instead of El Panama America already screwing up on day two and a rogue president getting an exclusive sneak peek at the cables.

I don't know if this will help but here is a searchable database for currently available cables.  You can use the search term panama.

In fact Panama´s President has put so much pressure on media that he nearly controls every paper and tv station...
He bought through third parties -bearer shareholders- PANAMA AMERICA.
Too bad he is also controlling the cables of WL...
Too bad...

I saw this article today: http://www.semana.com/noticias-nacion/colombia-muy-interesante-para-wikileaks/153606.aspx

The title in english says: Colombia is very interesting to Assange"

Are we interesting to Assange? Our president has been very friendly with the corrupt ex president of colombia and the current one too.

Can we please have more than one media outlet have access to the cables? Could independent journalists have access too?

It's only fair that if a government newspaper gets to have access an opposition paper should have access too. Otherwise you are helping the government control what we see.

Please, give us more access to this information.

Sres Wikileaks!

(Dear Friends Wikileaks! Leaks deliver to the PanamaAmerica (Panamanian newspaper) in Panama is as transferring the cables relating to the United States directly to the White House or State Department. Use other ways such as Facebook, but not make the mistake of delivering LEAKS directly to this newspaper of the goverment!)

And for you information our current president wants to change the constitution... WE NEED INFORMATION! Please give more people access to the cables.

If these things shouldn't be secret, as you say, then give us access.

"So people started to complain about the government more than Panamanians usually do and what did the president do?
He pushed for a law to provide two- to four-year prison sentences for anyone who insults, offends or vilifies him or any other elected official;

A group of his supporters bought EPASA, the parent company that publishes La Critica and El Panama America, purging the staff and editorial columnists and turning the two papers into a Martinelli cheering section; and
He demanded that Abdul Waked, the principal owner of El Siglo and La Estrella, get rid of publisher Ebrahim Asvat, and then started to make noises about reviewing Waked's duty-free concession at Tocumen Airport, such that pressures were brought to bear that ended in Asvat's resignation."

See how EPASA spins:

http://www.pa-digital.com.pa/periodico/edicion-actual/nacion-interna.php?story_id=1029133

Now Balbina and Aleman are the "extreme left."

A more demagogic faction of kleptocrats, maybe. Stephenson DID portray it in left/center/right terms, which was a stupid paradigm. It's a matter of Balbina and Aleman putting on slightly more nationalistic airs than the other people, and Toro as the sticky fingered banker who got caught, but among the folks mentioned there are no substantial disagreements about economic matters.

(Within the PRD, however, Laurentino Cortizo has distinguished himself as an opponent of free trade with the USA and I'd say that puts him on the left of the party by my way of thinking. Right after the 2009 elections he didn't register on the embassy's radar, but he seems to be a contender now.)

I notice this morning how El Panama America has erased the WikiLeak about Tocumen.

I cant beleive all this remarks made by real corrupt individuals who are anti everything that dont have the courage even to put their own name or email but they do tell a bunch of lies regarding the current president. Martinelli is a great president and not corrupt as the individuals who are posting this lies.
