Occupy D.C. Plans Week-Long Protests
Protesters demonstrated outside Bank of America branches Saturday

Organizers of the Occupy D.C. movement say they are planning a week of resistance called “Occupy D.C. Strikes Back” to mark the one-year anniversary of the protests that began in New York and spread to cities across the country.

The protests begin Monday, when demonstrators plan to "storm K Street and the offices of its many corporate profiteers" during the morning rush. According to the group's website, protesters plan to meet at Farragut Square at 7 a.m. and begin marching at 10 a.m. before regathering at Freedom Plaza. Other disruptions are possible in the areas of Washington Circle, Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, and Mount Vernon Square. Anyone driving in those areas Monday morning should plan ahead and be aware of potential disruptions.

On Saturday, small groups of protesters demonstrated outside Bank of America Branches in the District. They held foreclosure signs in hoping of calling attention to a number of foreclosures that are affecting people in the area.

One of those facing the loss of his home is the Reverend Robert Michael Vanzant, who was forced to stop working after suffering a mild stroke in 2008. He was among the protesters at a Bank of America branch in Columbia Heights, and he spoke to WAMU Radio.
