MP Al-Shammari: Arab Court for Human Rights is a pioneering step

 07 : 54 PM - 18/09/2013

Manama, Sep 18 (BNA) -- Chairman of the Human Rights Committee at the Representatives Council, independent MP Abdul Hakim Al-Shammari, said that the Arab League Council's approval of Manama to host the permanent headquarters of the Arab Court for Human Rights, under the Arab League's decision taken in the 140th session held in Cairo on the first of current September, is an important event in the modern history of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab nation.

Al-Shammari explained that this decision was taken in response to the initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa that was presented during the 24th Arab Summit held in Doha last March.

He considered this step represents a future vision that copes with the aspirations of the Arab people towards meeting the requirements of the protection of human rights.

He added the Arab Court for Human Rights is specialized in human rights and humanitarian issues and have binding powers over the rest of the Arab countries, and aims to promote human rights legislations in the Arab countries as well as to bolster freedoms in line with human rights principles.
