This mail is about the relation between Venezuela and Honduras in June 2011. The Statfor analyst explains that president of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, is trying to have friendly diplomatic relationship with Venezuelan authorities.

The analyst quotes an article by "Nuevo Herald" but precises that he doesn't trust completely that source. According to him the alliance wished by pdt Lobo with Hugo Chavez is « of convenience ».

Nuevo herald is a newspaper in spanish based in Miami.

The article, in spanish, explains that during a secret meeting in May with a Venezuelan official, pdt Lobo has stated  that he wished to make in his country political and social reforms inspired by socialist ideals, but that he could not go too quick because of a very strong right-wing opposition.

For instance, he believes that he is not able to convene a constituent assembly for the moment; constituent assemblies were used by presidents of Venezuela, Bolivia and Equador to enforce political changes.
In 2009 former president of Honduras was Manuel Zelaya, but he has been overthrown by a coup d'etat, Mr Lobo fears to be overthrown too if he tries to make left winged reforms too quick.
