Public Forum: Assange, WikiLeaks & the Law in a Post 9/11 World

The Ecuador government granted WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, political asylum, the first Australian to be granted such a request.  They believe he has good reasons to fear that extradition to Sweden would lead to extradition to the US. Yet the UK, the Swedish, the Australian and US governments have claimed there is no plan for extradition and no evidence of a grand jury or an indictment. The Australian government’s claim, that it has provided more consular assistance for Assange than any other Australian in trouble overseas, is refuted by commentators and Assange supporters alike. So what can the public believe? Meanwhile, as yet untested allegations of sexual assault overshadow the work that Assange and WikiLeaks have done. And if Assange is sent to the US for prosecution, what conditions await him?
