The pseudo #wikileaks-forum.com website attempts to access canvas image data

Posted on January 23, 2014 by greekemmy

Using Tor (https://www.torproject.org) the Anonymising browser to access a website yesterday brought about a surprise message:

  " This Website (www.wikileaks-forum.com) attempted to access image data on a canvas. Since canvas image data can be used to discover information about your computer, blank image data was returned this time " .

 Then a drop down menu offered me the option to “Allow in the Future or “Never for this site”, which I of course selected. I took a screenshot to share here:

Why would this happen?

 When I googled “canvas image data” I got this article pop up which talks about duckduckgo.com facing similar problem.

https://duck.co/forum/thread/1952/warning-message-when-accessing-duckduckgo-com-usin

 They are investigating the issue.

 Will the owners and admins of the pseudo wikileaks forum do the same and explain why their website attempts to access canvas image data?

Why would this happen?

Dear Emmy,

just try to imagine WHY this would happen in a forum that obviously need to protect its members and site by eventual spammers and harassers!

" This Website (www.wikileaks-forum.com) attempted to access image data on a canvas. Since canvas image data can be used to discover information about your computer, blank image data was returned this time".

1) you are using TOR and https://startpage.com/ according to your screenshoot so nothing of your data can be detected + this forum has a security board that explains members how to surf anonymous online if they desire to stay hidden. So please let's not be hypocrite: there are ways to avoid the site checks who you are;

2) it's not just our forum; many sites have the same mechanism;

3) this forum obviously needs to defend itself and its members from abusers and spammers;

4) can be used to discover information about your computer doesn't mean that the data will necessary be used;

5) ... yeah using TOR to try to find details and hinting things to discredit a forum community is a Very Noble use of it!

Emmy, you have tried to hijack this forum's account for your personal anger dued to the fact part of this team and its founder have criticized Julian Assange; you could have used this platform to support Assange 360° every day; you have preferred to start a "discrediting online war" with ad-prersonam attacks direct to those you don't like.

Your attempts to attack this forum are like those attempts made to demonize Assange: you use whatever insignificant even offtopic detail to try to undermine the trust in this site and its founder.

You'd better accept the fact that there are people with different opinions/views than yours even on Assange and WikiLeaks instead of wasting time and energies in blogging inconsistent details.

You'd better use your blog to support Julian Assange only, that he needs.
