I recently was commenting on phishing emails in this thread here...

http://www.wikileaks-forum.com/attacks/326/china-might-be-building-vast-database-of-federal-worker-info-experts-say/33900/new;topicseen#new

I get enough of these annoying things, that I though I might start a thread about them. When ever I do get them, I get sometimes annoyed, sometimes mad that someone, or someones are really out there trying to cause me pain and suffering.

I consider them bastards, because their intent is to steal from me, extort money from me, and all around abuse me in some way, all in the hopes to line their pockets with very undeserved money. I wish they would all just do themselves in somehow.

I always wish I could expose them somehow, but I can imagine that even if you were able to send the emails to some reporting data base... I doubt that the emails can be traced, for surely these bastards hide their tracks.

So I decided to start this thread to lay some of their work bare to the public... just for fun. The posts on this thread will be examples of what I occasionally receive in my email. Others are welcome to post examples of theirs too, if they feel so inclined...

Hi there!

APL Inc. is going to become a 1 TRILLION Dollar company in 2016...

It is already the biggest company on the planet - almost twice as big as Microsoft and leaving everyone else behind by miles!

And it has produced MANY MANY millionaires.

Guys such as Gunnar Erikkson who made over 26 million (!!!) USD trading APL stock.

Click here to get the details

But there is still time! With the iWatch released (a new market segment for APL; the first in 5 years) and soon even cars being produced by the company (rumour?) the stock will rise big, analysts say.

However, normal rises will only make you a few bucks if you invest into APL. You need to leverage your investment by 100x - heck even 400x...

That's how Gunnar made his fortune!

Try it out! This isn't another binary option B.S. but an opportunity to walk a proven path - one that has been walked for years!

Sincerely,

Larry T.

Hello

I recently quit my job.
Not because I hated it or anything.

I
recently had gotten a flavor of what real moneymaking was.
The system had me
making $659 a day--when I only committed two hours of daily.

When I started
working it full time...
Must I say more?

This is one that came to me from my employer! Believe it or not, large employers now test employees on how to recognize phishing emails... the email came me to in my employee email account and I called my IT support department right away because it seriously did  not look legit. Here it is....

IT Service Desk Support requires your immediate re-activation of your Email account. This is to upgrade email account to Microsoft Outlook 2015. Inability to complete this procedure will render your account inactivate. Activate by completing the survey procedure.kind to Click here to activate.
Regards,

IT Support

So my IT support desk told me to go ahead and delete it, they were just testing everyone. Basically large employers now have to establish that their employee are diligent.

Hi

This chance is definitely a small time deal.
Make the exact same money
I'm making. (12,370 bucks a week)

OR MAYBE not.

So what I find interesting here is the message of the email pretends that they are getting back to you from
a prior transaction with your receipt. It makes you want to open it right away because it worries you that you have
not made any recent purchases that require a receipt. Very tricky. As soon as you open it, the first lie is exposed right away, because there is no receipt at all.

The person claims they are making 12,000 bucks a week, essentially 625,000 per year.... LOL!
I am sure someone with that much income is wanting to run around on the web and tell strangers
how much they make and tell them how to make that much too. It is a very similar format as last time,
with the all knowing powerful quote at the end to try and give the message some integrity.

I recall receiving some of this same type pre assuming transaction emails as early as 2002. What a tactic.

Think I'll start sharing some of the ones I've received recently. Good thread here.

Displaying some of the tactics these mailers are using to arouse curiosity from receipients might help someone spot a phishing attack.

I had an issue with someone trying to pretend he is with Chase credit card company and the way he went about trying to get my number was AMAZING.  Needless to say, after I mailed the entire email with sender info attached to CHASE abuse section, CHASE now loves me to death. LOL.

Many of the Phishing emails play the Student Loan forgiveness gimmic...

From Arianna Lorette

To (me)

Receive help from the Presidents forgiveness plan for students who are out of school and have student debt. Call: 18886468516 |6am-6pm| Pacific Standard Time M-F

I would not have the nerve to call the number, but when I googled it to read about reports of it, I found interesting comments of people who did.

"Just got an email from Roxy Speck talking about student loan forgiveness.Poorly written email. this is what comes up when I looked up the number. I am going to call and have some fun.A man named Matt answered. He told me he represents US student loan center., I asked why i was solicited with an email that does not name the company. He tells me "you can just send it to spam." I let him know I sent it to the fbi. US student loan center is not accredited by the BB and has 19 settled complains against it. I am hoping one day thee junkie criminals get caught. I have zero respect for thieves, but even less for those who cannot not even look me in the eye when they try to rob me."

I wish now that I had some of the emails that came my way right after the Anthem cyber attack, of which I was a victim of....

 https://www.anthem.com/health-insurance/about-us/pressreleasedetails/WI/2015/1813/statement-regarding-cyber-attack-against-anthem

Those phishing emails were so poorly written and obvious, it would have been fun to poke fun at them here. It is just a good release from the growing shadow of attacks that seem practically common place now. Just in the past few years I have been a victim of:

The Anthem cyber attack, the Federal Employees cyber attack, several of my credit/debit cards had to be cancelled and sent new to me by different banks over the years because of cyber security breach, my wholesale club membership card had been hacked so that hackers were able to buy goods on the clubs site online with my membership privileges(luckily with their own credit card not mine), and on and on....

@UltraTime, glad you have joined the fun. It will be interesting to see other phishing emails to see how they compare. :-)

So this phishing email still has the same format of the big quotes to somehow imply integrity?? What was kind of unnerving was the fact that it does a bottom link for you to click on to unsubscribe to such emails.... that practice is common among actual legit marketing emails that I get from time to try and get new customers. Those links to unsubscribe I have used many times to get off of mailing list.... is this the new way to trick someone into downloading malware??? Anybody know??
