Assange, who is currently under house arrest in England, will give the keynote address to an international media conference in Berlin.

COLOGNE, Germany - Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will give the keynote address to open this year's Berlin international media conference on Sept. 5.

The Internet activist is currently under house arrest in England, so it is unclear whether he will be able to travel to Berlin or will give his keynote remotely over the Internet.

It will be Assange's first industry appearance since his arrest. He is also scheduled to virtually address an Australian rock concert at the end of the month.

Organizers of the Berlin event said that in addition to his speech, Assange will also do a rare Q&A session with German-based U.S. journalist Melinda Crane.

Assange rose to international fame, and infamy, after his Wikileaks website published thousands of classified documents and U.S. embassy cables. The leaks made headlines around the world and resulted in the arrest of Bradley Manning, the U.S. solider accused on sending Wikileaks the classified cables. Manning is currently in a military prison awaiting a possible court marshall.

Assange himself remains under house arrest in England as he continues to fight extradiction to Sweden. Earlier this year, a British judge ordered Assange to return to Sweden to face allegations of sexual assault and rape. Assange denies the allegations, which he claims are politically motivated.
