I love Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States; it forces us to take our rose-tinted glasses off, allows us to see America’s foundation for what it really was, and sheds light on historical events and realities that have been ignored or glossed over by high school history books for decades. Whether this book should be accessible in its entirety on Wiki leaks is debatable, but since Zinn gave the okay for it, I don’t see why anyone else should have a problem with it. Another resource I recommend for American history is Shmoop; it gave me access to some really interesting facts about the American Revolution that I’ve never come across before. For example, all this time, I thought that the first major battle happened at Bunker’s Hill, because that’s what it’s normally referred to. However, the battle actually took place at Breed’s Hill, close to Boston.
